A Day in the Saddle

I had spent the last few days at my parents, helping them and my sisters navigate hospice with my dad. It’s been emotional but it’s also been so cathartic to just be here and focus on caring for our dad. It’s Tuesday though and I needed to return home to get our boxes shipped out for the week.

Upon returning home today, I found a crew of kiddos excited to see me and a husband who I could tell, had been holding down the fort but was ready for help. So, the kids and I got to work.

We cleaned the little barn where I milk & got fresh minerals mixed for the sheep. We restocked their supply and checked udders for any development. We noted which ewes were looking close and which ones seemed to have a ways to go.

Afterwards, we cleaned the chicken coop and then the horses stalls.

It felt so good to be outside doing my normal routine. But more than anything, it felt so amazing to hop onto the horses and take a ride around the pastures with my kids. We’ve been so busy, we haven’t been able to make that happen but I made sure to put it at the top of the list today.

Not much helps heal the heart like an afternoon in the saddle.
